What did you like most about Sri Lanka?

The amazing wild life, the people are amazing and will try to please so hard – we were so well looked after, the landscape.

The beaches – so much to see – you can’t possibly do it in one trip.

Every location we visited had a different charm and experience to offer.

What did you like least about Sri Lanka?

Plastic bottles on the beaches.

The lack of care for the dogs.

The humidity.

What is your opinion of your accommodation in Sri Lanka?

Standards are very good and rooms are spacious and well decorated.

Palagama Beach [Kalpitiya] - was developing a fruit and veg garden to supply the kitchen and they cooked us a meal to show how the vegetables could be used.

The tree house [Wilpattu Corridor, Wilpattu] was a wonderful place to stay but they need some house rules re: loud music or other noise as the sound insulation is not so good but the emphasis and respect should be on the natural sounds and environment that you can experience in this place. The hospitality there was amazing.

Unawatana [Thaproban Pavilion Resort & Spa] - I had yoga lessons at their Retreat base - that was such a fabulous experience.

Jetwing Yala - very modern has some very good projects that they support - and very high standards of customer care.

Imagine [Villa Hotel] close to Mirissa was bliss - their philosophy of how to run a hotel is one to be copied by others - it is so relaxed and comfortable there. Loved it.

What is your opinion of your chauffeur guide in Sri Lanka?

We were met at the airport by Ravi who introduced us to drinking from the coconut - he was great.

From then on Niroshan took care of us driving us from location to location, always on time, always smart and efficient.  He was great fun and shared many jokes with us but he was also very knowledgeable about the country and the wildlife. We learnt a lot from him - he was another element in what made our holiday so rewarding.

What is your opinion of your flights to and from Sri Lanka?

Emirates [Economy Class] were fine - it is a long journey and it was good to have leisure days both after the flight and before departure.

It was a very tight turnaround at Dubai for the Manchester flight home as there was less than 2 hours connection time and our incoming flight was 30 mins late. However, Emirates were waiting for us to escort us directly to the Gate and we just got there on time.

Any other comments?

A really interesting holiday with so much to take in - it was well organized and everything worked. We had some memorable moments and were amazed at the hospitality of the people they were brilliant. It was such fun and we learnt so much.

Having set out my demands for the holiday John worked to meet them but in hindsight if had realized how far away each place was I might have simplified things a bit to reduce travel times. And possibly built in some more yoga.

I didn’t buy lots of tourist items - I have enough of those I think but just a few odd items that will serve as memories of the country.
