What did you like most about Sri Lanka?

I loved the history, the scenery, the food and the interesting, kind and intelligent people we met along the way! Loved the ice-cream in Jaffna! And the buffalo curd.

What did you like least about Sri Lanka?

There wasn’t anything I totally disliked. As with many places the humidity was tiring.

What is your opinion of your accommodation in Sri Lanka?

Excellent range of accommodation – loved it all.

We stayed in a wide variety of accommodation. We appreciated the opportunity to experience different places and enjoyed them all. My favourite was the plantation owner’s lodge [Mandira Strathdon Bungalow, Adam’s Peak] – I wish we could have stayed longer – I loved the atmosphere. I also enjoyed the tree houses at The Mudhouse [Puttalam]. My only criticism would be the furniture in the bedroom at [Jetwing] St. Andrew’s [Nuwara Eliya] which was tired and cheap and jarred with its surroundings – my bed was missing a knob and the paintwork was scratched and scuffed.

What is your opinion of your chauffeur guide in Sri Lanka?

Niroshan was highly knowledgeable, friendly and kind. He was always on time, well turned out and helpful. He was easy to talk to, and learn from, and was a careful and considerate driver. I would have no hesitation in recommending him to other travellers.

What is your opinion of your flights to and from Sri Lanka?

Excellent. I was impressed by the service we received on SriLankan Airlines – the food was good, we appreciated the 2-seat configuration, the staff were attentive and came round frequently.

Any other comments?

We very much enjoyed visiting Sri Lanka and experiencing its history, culture, natural beauty and wildlife. It was impressive to see the efforts being made to develop its transport infrastructure and to rebuild its social fabric after the lengthy and destructive war. I wish them well.

One final comment – the scenery on the train journey through the tea plantations [Kandy to Nanu Oya near Nuwara Eliya] was lovely on both sides of the carriage but was probably most consistently stunning on the right hand side. It might be worth purchasing tickets for your clients on the right hand side of the carriage.
