What did you like most about Sri Lanka?
Interior, the hills.
What did you like least about Sri Lanka?
Too many large Chinese groups!
Concern that over large hotels are being built.
What is your opinion of your accommodation in Sri Lanka?
Generally very good.
Casa Heliconia [Airport] – Excellent for a one night post flight stop – good food.
Heritance Kandalama [Dambulla] – We are aware that from an architectural point of view we really wanted to stay there, and we don’t regret it. It is quite amazing. Loved the details in the rooms and that stone corridor. For a large ‘tour group’ hotel it is very well run. However the ghastly Chinese tour groups are quite dementing! And that may put people off.
Rangala House [Knuckles] – Delightful – lovely setting, friendly staff and nice that they had printed out detailed walks for guests – specially liked the cobra who slithered alongside the swimming pool!
The Secret Kandy [Kandy] – Once again adequate for a one night stop. We did find the room a little noisy (from the room above).
98 Acres [Resort, Ella] – Lovely setting, rooms, pool. Service was a little strange!! They are building some kind of reception area which is sorely needed.
The Last House [Tangalle] – Comes up first! A lovely small hotel. Beautiful room, well run – absolutely no adverse comment.
The Fort Printers [Galle] – Of all the hotels this was the one we liked least. We did ask to have our room changed (Geography Suite) it was extremely noisy – sound carried up from the bar/reception area below. Rather strange that one could see through the adjoining doors to next doors bathroom! However the staff were very accommodating and did move us. We felt the communal outside areas where a little claustrophobic, there really wasn’t anywhere comfortable to sit.
Club Villa [Bentota] – Once again a very nice small hotel. Comfortable room, good pool and well run.
Tintagel [Colombo] – This must be one of the nicest small hotels to stay in Colombo.
Of all The Last House comes first followed by Rangala House.
What is your opinion of your chauffeur guide in Sri Lanka?
Very good. Friendly, knowledgeable, sense of humour. [Niroshan]
What is your opinion of your flights to and from Sri Lanka?
Very good – SriLankan Airlines [Economy Class] – on time, clean, good cabin crew.
Any other comments?
Shopping quality disappointing.
Paradise Road in Colombo to be recommended.
We very much enjoyed the trip and did a lot of Bawa architecture around Bentota and Colombo. Do hope Sri Lanka keeps the tourist invasion under control!!
