What did you like most about Sri Lanka?
The people, the wildlife – especially birds – and the national parks and botanic gardens.
What did you like least about Sri Lanka?
The amount of rubbish, and the slow roads which made journeys longer than expected.
What is your opinion of your accommodation in Sri Lanka?
Overall very good. We particularly enjoyed staying with Pathi and Suba; Suba gave us a cookery class which was great fun (nobody died)! [Hanthana House, Kandy]
Buckingham Place [Tangalle] was amazing, the most luxurious we’ve ever been in!
The Safari [Tissamaharama] was good quality all round but rather larger and more impersonal than we prefer.
Galkadawala [Habarana] was more isolated than we’d expected so we had to have evening meals there (poor value at US$10 each). Liked the jungly surroundings a lot though.
What is your opinion of your chauffeur guide in Sri Lanka?
We had Kapila, who scores eleven out of ten! Good driver, good company, always got us where we wanted to go even if it was a new destination for him, and helped us to see over 100 Sri Lankan birds [species]. He’s a great guy with whom to spend a couple of weeks and we wish him every success with you.
What is your opinion of your flights to and from Sri Lanka?
No better or worse than you can expect in Economy Class. [SriLankan Airlines]
Any other comments?
You might want to revise your estimated journey times, because they’ve all got longer – sometimes due to things like roadworks, but usually just weight of traffic.
We are very impressed with Tikalanka and would definitely use you again, and recommend you to others. The information you sent pre-departure, including our itinerary, was comprehensive, clear and detailed, and very helpful. And it was nice to be able to reach you on the phone so easily when I had a question!
