What did you like most about Sri Lanka?

The varied geography, flora and fauna of the country and the range of things to see and do at each location. The people were very friendly and helpful.

What did you like least about Sri Lanka?

We found it a bit frustrating to not be able to walk along the beach in Galle without being harassed by someone claiming to be a tour guide. There was also a lot of plastic pollution in the waterways.

What is your opinion of your accommodation in Sri Lanka?

Our first hotel, Cinnamon Lodge [Habarana], was the best of the hotels we stayed in with a great layout, good food and attentive staff. Sound insulation at Cinnamon Citadel in Kandy was not sufficient but the food was still good. The Grand Hotel in Nuwara Eliya was very well presented in the public areas but the bathrooms in the rooms could do with a bit of an update. [The] Planter's Bungalow in Ella had spacious rooms in beautiful surroundings and very generous portions at meal time, the only complaint here is the wifi in the room was too slow to be useful. Jetwing Lighthouse in Galle was a beautiful hotel in a great location but the service was slow, checking in took longer than anywhere else, we had to wait 20 minutes to get the bill for a few drinks at the hotel bar and it took 25 minutes to check out when we were the only guests at reception.

What is your opinion of your chauffeur guide in Sri Lanka?

Our guide, Ayesh (I think the company knows him as Mahesh) was very good and exactly what we needed. We had a loose itinerary which required padding out, he gave us a very clear list of options available to us at each location. He made sure that we got the best possible experience from our trip, including queuing at 4am to get us train tickets through the tea plantations. His wildlife knowledge was exceptional and he was always able to let me know what each bird or animal was on the many occasions I asked. His friendly manner and willingness to share an anecdote or story made him a pleasure to spend time with.

What is your opinion of your flights to and from Sri Lanka?

We travelled with SriLankan Airlines [Economy Class] which was pleasant enough. Not the most efficient in flight service but the staff were all friendly and helpful.

Any other comments?

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Sri Lanka. Our journey around the country was well paced with good hotels and a very knowledgeable and friendly guide in Ayesh who only enhanced the holiday. The whole experience of booking through Tikalanka has been hassle free. Our trip was a very last minute decision so the prompt, clear communication and advice from John was greatly appreciated.
