Chris & Nick

England, January 2016

Just a note to say that we arrived back in the UK yesterday having had a brilliant trip.

Thank you for giving us the gift of Kapila! [chauffeur guide] He added so much to the trip and is definitely the right man in the right job.  He is hardworking and very professional in his attitude to his work but with the right balance of friendliness and humour.  We hit it off very well.

Everything went like clockwork, so our thanks to you and Pathi and his assistant in the office (who we met but whose name I didn’t catch [Priyantha]) for sorting out all the arrangements so well.

You may be aware that one of the hotels, Heaven’s Edge [Ella], wasn’t as good as the rest – I know Kapila has already reported this to Pathi.  Its location was superb, and the room, pool etc were all lovely, it was just the food that was the problem.  We came down to dinner to find we were the only people dining in a huge dining room.  That wasn’t the hotel’s fault, but it didn’t help.  Nick ordered a gin and tonic and was served a bottle of tonic water that had spots of mould on the label, which drew our attention and led to us checking the ‘use by’ date which was 5 December 2015.  The food was warm rather than hot, and given that the main course was chicken we felt somewhat uneasy about eating it.  We decided not to risk it and went to eat down in Ella instead, having explained our concerns to the staff.  Kapila was very attentive and certainly did everything he could that evening to make sure we were ok.  It wasn’t a huge problem, and we’re not raising it as a major issue but it seems worth bringing it to your attention so you are aware for future guests.  We spoke to a German lady whilst waiting for the tuk-tuk into the town who was staying there and she said her guide had recommended it for the accommodation but advised them not to eat there, to eat in the town.  I think we’d concur with that.  We had a really excellent meal at Chillies in Ella.

Our favourite destination was Mirissa – we are so glad we had a couple of days there, it was glorious and we were very reluctant to leave.  The room and balcony were superb, the food was good and the wine reasonably priced [Paradise Beach Club] (in contrast to the [Heritance] Kandalama!)

All in all it was a superb trip and we feel Tikalanka provided us with a great package and excellent service. Thank you!
