What did you like most about Sri Lanka?

Almost everything – beautiful country, fascinating culture, lively atmosphere, great people, good food (although buffets get repetitive after a while).

What did you like least about Sri Lanka?

Traffic on main roads, but not much you can do about that!

A personal bugbear – when hotels (e.g. Amaya Beach) engage local musicians to play terrible covers of Western music. So much better when you can listen to local music played authentically!

What is your opinion of your accommodation in Sri Lanka?

Hotel Sigiriya [Sigiriya] probably favourite, beautiful setting, lovely atmosphere.

Cinnamon Citadel, Kandy also excellent. Food especially good there.

Amaya Beach Resort [Passekudah] has lovely setting and was generally good except when big conference parties dominated, 3 out of 7 days. Big corporate events destroyed atmosphere though obviously great that local people use the hotel not just foreigners!

Tamarind Tree, Negombo – OK but fading grandeur!

What is your opinion of your chauffeur guide in Sri Lanka?

Sena was excellent. Interesting, very knowledgeable, deeply sincere. Always went ut of his way to ensure we could do what we wanted. First class.

What is your opinion of your flights to and from Sri Lanka?

Pretty good, especially London – Dubai (and return) legs on vast comfortable Emirates planes [Airbus A380]. Dubai – Colombo was very cramped on much older plane [Boeing 777], but 4-hour overnight flight is never much fun.

Any other comments?

We’d like to say a big thank you to you, John, for introducing us to Sri Lanka and helping us plan an itinerary which gave us exactly what we wanted. Great balance of exploration and rest!

Only oddity in schedule was when we found we weren’t going to Temple of the Tooth Relic in Kandy – but Sena fixed this for us!

Overall we had a great holiday, learned a lot and saw some fantastic places.

Thank you for everything!
