Sinhala and Tamil are the official languages of Sri Lanka, but English is widely spoken and understood in the main tourist centres and major towns and cities though not by many people in rural areas. German, French and Italian as well as a little Chinese (Mandarin), Japanese and Russian are also spoken in some tourist areas.
Sinharaja
Set against the backdrop of Sinharaja Forest Reserve, the resort is a real ’get-away-from-it-all’ jungle retreat without compromising on comfort or facilities. The northern region of the forest reserve is a haven for birdwatchers with 48 bird species, including 12 endemics, spotted locally.
