After a prolonged 15-year legal battle, Wilpattu National Park has received renewed protection following a ruling by the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka, which prevents public use of an illegal road that cuts through the park. Goyambokka beach, with its iconic golden sandy swathes, has been voted one of the World's 50 best beaches for 2025. Close by are a couple of our favourite places to stay, Palm Paradise Cabanas & Villas and Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort.
