Sri Lanka’s New Year celebrations on 13 April 2020 were a subdued affair unsurprisingly with the prime minister promoting national unity and cultural coexistence to mark the occasion.

SriLankan Airlines has extended the suspension of regular flights until at least 30 April 2020. However, a special flight (UL503) will operate from Colombo to London on 18 April 2020 and the airline has confirmed that seats are available on this special flight. Qatar Airways services have been reduced to one flight per day to Doha, with onward connections to the UK, and the airline intends to keep operating this route for as long as possible.
