Curfews imposed to restrict the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Sri Lanka are subject to last-minute changes and checkpoints have been introduced in a number of places recently. The number of confirmed deaths from COVID-19 on the island is now three.

If you are already in Sri Lanka, the government has announced that visit visas will be extended to 12 May 2020. The government has confirmed that you can pay the relevant fee and complete the process at the airport on departure.

Please refer to the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) for current official travel advice for Sri Lanka.

There are currently no commercial options available to return to the UK from Maldives. This is due to decisions taken by the airlines rather than by the local authorities. Qatar Airways intends to maintain flights between Malé and Doha but the airline is unlikely to operate during April 2020. The UK government is working closely with the airlines, the Maldivian authorities and other governments to make sure options are available for British nationals to return to the UK as soon as possible. If you cannot leave Maldives at this time, the FCO has posted a 5-point plan of ‘What to do’.

Please refer to FCO Maldives for current official travel advice for Maldives.
