The Tikalanka Taster tour is an 11-day introductory holiday to Sri Lanka, which will give you a flavour of the island's many beautiful and interesting sights as well as some time to relax on Sri Lanka's tropical beaches and in the Hill Country. Visits to Yala wildlife reserve and Nuwara Eliya, the capital of the Hill Country, as well as tours of Kandy, Dambulla, Polonnaruwa and Sigiriya, will be complemented by R&R at the beach and in Ella.

Beginning at the quiet palm-fringed beach of Mirissa on the south coast, you will travel east along the picturesque southern coastline to Yala West National Park for some wildlife spotting, before climbing into the Hill Country at Ella, continuing on to Nuwara Eliya, the highest town in Sri Lanka at 1900 m above sea level, and finally Kandy, the capital of the last Sinhalese kingdom. From there, you will head further north into Sri Lanka's Cultural Triangle, visiting the cave temples at Dambulla, the medieval capital of Polonnaruwa and Sigiriya rock fortress, before finishing up at the beach on the west coast. Holiday Itinerary

Day 1	Depart UK to be properly introduced to Sri Lanka!
Day 2	Arrive Colombo airport and greeted by your dedicated Tikalanka Tours chauffeur guide. Head south to the quiet palm-fringed tropical beach at Mirissa. Night stay at Mirissa.
Day 3	At leisure. Night stay at Mirissa.
Day 4	At leisure. Night stay at Mirissa.
Day 5	Morning drive from Mirissa to Yala, following the picturesque southern coastline. In the afternoon, enjoy a jeep safari in Yala West National Park to see elephants and the elusive leopard (hopefully!). Night stay at Yala.
Day 6	After breakfast, head into the hills for a relaxing afternoon and evening around Ella, which has good walking trails and great views through Ella Gap to the southern plain 1000 m below. Night stay at Ella.
Day 7	A one-day tour of the Hill Country, starting with a drive through tea plantations and passed spectacular waterfalls on your way to Nuwara Eliya, the British colonial capital of the Hill Country and the highest town in Sri Lanka at 1900 m above sea level. Tour a working tea factory at Labookellie to see how 'two-leaves-and-a-bud' tunrs into your daily cuppa. Enjoy a refreshing cup of Broken Orange Pekoe and a slice of delicious homemade chocolate cake! Continue on to Kandy, arriving in the early evening. Night stay at Kandy.
Day 8	Morning walking tour of Kandy, taking in the Buddhist monasteries and Hindu devales, the lake, and the municipal market. In the afternoon, visit the beautifully kept and well presented Peradeniya Botanic Gardens on the outskirts of Kandy before experiencing the evening's Buddhist puja (blessing ceremony) at the Temple of the Tooth, Sri Lanka's most revered religious relic. Night stay at Kandy.
Day 9	Leave Kandy and head north into the island's Cultural Triangle, visiting the cave temples at Dambulla before continuing on to the historic medieval capital of Polonnaruwa for a tour of its well preserved temples and exquisitely carved statues. Drive to Sigiriya at dusk when there is a good chance of seeing wild elephants at the roadside. Night stay at Sigiriya.
Day 10	Early morning ascent of the rock fortress of Sigiriya to view the surrounding countryside at dawn - a very special experience indeed. Tour of Sigiriya's rock palace and ornamental gardens before driving down to the west coast for a last day at the beach. Night stay at Waikkal.
